If you are considering using your HMO dental insurance and are planning to go to a PPO dentist, you should check whether your HMO has listed that dentist as part of their network.

HMOs are a bit restrictive when it comes to their dentists since you may only avail of your benefits through their network. The advantage is that you don't have to pay for the covered services, the insurance company will be the one to settle the bill.

If you plan to avail of a dental procedure from a dentist outside of the network, even when that dentist is a PPO dentist, you will have to pay for the services. Look at the list of accredited providers in your area.
